Conserving energy in New York City
How much power does it take to pump 35,000 gallons of water per minute up 120 feet vertical?
Miskolczi’s model getting more attention
“[Miskolczi's] theory implies that adding CO2 to the atmosphere would reduce the relative humidity. So, has relative humidity been falling with increasing CO2 concentrations?
Here is a graph of global average annual relative humidity at various elevations in the atmosphere expressed in milli-bars (mb) from 300 mb to 700 mb for the period 1948 to 2007. The data is from the NOAA Earth System Research Laboratory here.
… This graph shows that the GCM assumption of constant relative humidity is wrong and is yet another proof that the climate predictions of the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are wrong. …
The new Miskolczi theory of the greenhouse effect provides the detailed explanation of why the greenhouse effect is limited to its current value for a constant external Sun forcing. Adding CO2 to the atmosphere just replaces an equivalent amount of water vapour to maintain a constant greenhouse effect.
The global warming the Earth has experienced over the twentieth century is mostly due to the Sun, including the Sun’s effects on clouds via cosmic rays. Increasing Sun activity adds to the greenhouse effect by increasing the specific humidity; increasing CO2 concentration in the atmosphere does not.” ““Saturated greenhouse effect” wrecks climate models“
"NASA GISS Biggest Outlier Again"

“ENSO and the longer term PDO are the real drivers for decadal climate change, used to support the greenhouse gang from 1979 to around 2002 but now has them on the defensive. If the cooling continues as we believe it will, they will have to resort to even more creative data manipulation to keep the hoax alive. But this will become increasingly apparent because they have no control over the satellite measurements.” “May global data all in – NASA GISS biggest outlier again“
I can only add that the Sun drives oceanic cycles and is the ultimate climate driver.
"Nationalize this!"
“Which makes us wonder: Do they even know that socialism — state ownership of the means of production — has been completely discredited by history?
For 74 years, we struggled against this evil system, and it ultimately collapsed of its own internal contradictions. Yet, apparently, many Democrats are keen to replicate its worst features here.
What’s ironic about this nationalization mania is that government, specifically bad decisions made during decades of control by Democrats, is to blame for our current energy woes.
Whether it’s their failure to build nuclear power plants or oil refineries, their refusal to drill for our plentiful oil, their reliance on market-destroying price controls or their absurd belief that windfall profit taxes will somehow bring us more energy, Democrat-led Congresses have failed us over and over again.” “Nationalize this!“
The road to socialism
“Among other things, the Democrats called for the government to own refineries so it could better control the flow of the oil supply. …
Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), member of the House Appropriations Committee and one of the most-ardent opponents of off-shore drilling: “We (the government) should own the refineries. Then we can control how much gets out into the market.”" “House Democrats call for nationalization of refineries“
What idiots.
Lower your demand!
“When it comes to the current crisis over high oil prices, the new twist in McCain’s June 17 speech is his plan to increase domestic supplies. The Democrats, in contrast, say that it’s easier and quicker to tame high prices by lowering demand. Reducing “energy consumption-and not the mantra of drilling-is the solution to our energy crisis,” says Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).” “Offshore oil drilling opponents are rethinking“
New cap and trade bill introduced by House Democrats
Not deterred by the bipartisan rejection in the Senate of the Lieberman-Warner climate tax bill, now House Democrats are introducing an even more odious economy killing tax and revenue redistribution bill, even as gas prices hit record highs. The monster won’t die. “Cap-and-trade legislation introduced“
New alarmist website
These misanthropes want to decrease CO2 to 350 ppmv, which is far less than “normal” concentrations over the last 600 million years, and far less than is necessary to sustain the current boom in the world’s plant biomass. “350 is the most important number on the planet“
Bush on need for domestic drilling
“First, we should expand American oil production by increasing access to the Outer Continental Shelf, or OCS. Experts believe that the OCS could produce about 18 billion barrels of oil. That would be enough to match America’s current oil production for almost ten years. …
Second, we should expand oil production by tapping into the extraordinary potential of oil shale. … In one major deposit — the Green River Basin of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming — there lies the equivalent of about 800 billion barrels of recoverable oil. That’s more than three times larger than the proven oil reserves of Saudi Arabia. And it can be fully recovered — and if it can be fully recovered it would be equal to more than a century’s worth of currently projected oil imports. …
Third, we should expand American oil production by permitting exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, or ANWR. … With a drilling footprint of less than 2,000 acres — less than one-tenth of 1 percent of this distant Alaskan terrain — America could produce an estimated 10 billion barrels of oil. That is roughly the equivalent of two decades of imported oil from Saudi Arabia. …
And finally, we need to expand and enhance our refining capacity. Refineries are the critical link between crude oil and the gasoline and diesel fuel that drivers put in their tanks. With recent changes in the makeup of our fuel supply, upgrades in our refining capacity are urgently needed. Yet it has been nearly 30 years since our nation built a new refinery, and lawsuits and red tape have made it extremely costly to expand or modify existing refineries.” “President Bush discusses energy“

Water vapor decreasing, Earth cooling

What’s the dominant greenhouse gas doing? “A window on water vapor and planetary temperature“
Scary
“A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 29% of voters favor nationalizing the oil industry. Just 47% are opposed and 24% are not sure.
The survey found that a plurality of Democrats (37%) believe the oil industry should be nationalized. Just 32% of voters in Barack Obama’s party disagree with that approach. Republicans oppose nationalizing the oil industry by a 66% to 16% margin. Unaffiliated voters are opposed by a 47% to 33% margin.” “Just 47% Oppose Nationalizing Oil Industry“
Contrary to what those in favor of nationalization believe, oil companies are not responsible for the high price of oil and their profits are not exorbitant. The only thing the government does well is the military, it would be a disaster to put government in charge of oil.
You think "green totalitarianism" is too strong a term?

China contradiction
“China has been by far the biggest winner from the Kyoto protocol, receiving tens of billions of dollars in investment to finance low-carbon technology. Last year, 73 per cent of carbon credit projects certified by the United Nations under the protocol were based in China. ” “Chinese reap biggest Kyoto rewards“
David Cameron continues to blow it
Will David Cameron snatch defeat from the jaws of victory? It appears so. First he panders to the eco-zealots with his “No carbon capture, no power plants!” policy, now he panders to them by opposing a third runway at Heathrow: “Tories to block third runway at Heathrow“
The British people are fed up with green totalitarianism, whoever Cameron’s political advisors are they should be fired.
More crap from the UN
“Conflicts fuelled by climate change causing new refugee crisis, warns UN – Climate change is fuelling conflicts around the world and helping to drive the number of people forced out of their homes to new highs, the head of the UN’s refugee agency said yesterday. After a few years of improvement, thanks mainly to large-scale resettlement in Afghanistan, the numbers of civilians uprooted by conflict is again rising. During 2007 the total jumped to 37.4 million, an increase of more than 3 million, according to statistics published today. (The Guardian)
Uh-huh… the globe cooled dramatically all through 2007 and continues to do so, roughly -0.75 K since Jan ’07. Been really hard on people, that cooling, as evidenced by an almost 9% leap in ‘environmental’ refugees. Makes you wonder why zealots want to undo fortuitous warming, doesn’t it?” Junk Science, June 17.
We don’t need no stinkin’ intellectual tolerance!
“Climate “skepticism” is not a morally defensible position. The debate is over, and it’s been over for quite some time, especially on this blog.
We will delete comments which deny the absolutely overwhelming scientific consensus on climate change, just as we would delete comments which questioned the reality of the Holocaust or the equal mental capacities and worth of human beings of different ethnic groups. Such “debates” are merely the morally indefensible trying to cover itself in the cloth of intellectual tolerance.” “Why Your “Skeptical” Comment on Climate Change Got Deleted“
Kind of reminds me of the Inquisition, good thing these people can’t do what they’d like to do to us.
"Brazilians understand the importance of energy to their future, while Americans do not"
“Petrobras CEO José Sergio Gabrielli was flush with bullish insights when he stopped by the Journal’s New York office last week to talk about the Brazilian oil company.
One reason for Mr. Gabrielli’s optimism is last year’s discovery of the offshore Tupi field, which is said to contain between five billion and eight billion barrels of black gold. Another, equally important reason is that, according to Mr. Gabrielli, neither environmentalists nor Brazilian politicians have raised concerns about exploiting oil in the waters off the Brazilian coast.
That’s quite a contrast with attitudes in the U.S., where offshore exploration and development has been all but shut down save in the Gulf of Mexico. One company official explains the difference by saying that Brazilians understand the importance of energy to their future, while Americans do not.” “Why Brazil Isn’t Ashamed to Exploit Its Oil“
Lonely warrior no longer alone
“What a difference three years makes: In 2005, I led the charge against a massive global warming cap-and-trade bill. It was a lonely battle with few GOP members willing to join me on the Senate floor to publicly oppose it.
Fast forward to June 2008: Not only was I joined by dozens of GOP Senators, but nearly 30% of the Democratic Senators rebelled against their leadership and opposed the Boxer Climate Tax Bill. In the end, Senator Boxer only had at most 35 Democratic Senators willing to vote for final passage on the largest tax bill in U.S. history. The Boxer Climate Tax Bill was so thoroughly disowned by Democratic Leadership that proponents of climate taxes will now be forced to start from scratch next year.” “Dems Running on Empty“
"How can so many be so wrong?"
Paul MacRae, an ex-journalist, now an academic, answers this question in an excellent post, “The making of a climate skeptic“.
Excerpt (read the whole post): “Well, for a start, here’s a comment from the Summary of the IPCC’s 2007 report:
Warming of the climate system is unequivocal, as is now evident from observations of increases in global average air and ocean temperatures, widespread melting of snow and ice, and rising global average sea level.
The only problem with this statement is that it isn’t true: it’s now widely accepted in scientific circles that the climate system hasn’t warmed since 1998. Yet, somehow, the writers of the 2007 IPCC report managed to find increases in warming when the planet wasn’t warming, which was a triumph of ideology over fact.
Curiously enough, this lack of warming still hasn’t been officially announced to the public. Why not? You’d think the news would make big, bold, front-page headlines: GLOBAL WARMING OVER (at least for now). Unfortunately, too many scientific careers (and billions in scientific grants) are riding on the hypothesis that humans are the main cause of warming to give the hypothesis up that easily.”
